The fourth generation of the Mazda MX-5, the ND, has today a new targa-looking version that promises to unseat the original roadster of original canvas roof.

Presented for the first time in the Hall of New York last year, the Mazda MX-5 RF, acronyms that respond to Retractable Fastback, has taken almost a year to arrive in Spain, but it is already among us, we have driven it in a first contact and this is what we think.

The first thing that needs to be clarified is where the idea of creating this model comes from. The third generation of the MX-5, the NC, had a hardtop version that turned it into a cabrio cabrio, which despite the great reception it had in the market broke with the spirit of lightness and simplicity of the original model.

It was a larger model, less roadster, and although another version of the roof was offered, most customers opted for the cabrio coupé. The MX-5 had lost its essence and that was something inadmissible for the Japanese brand.
