Skyactiv Vehicle Architecture
The Skyactiv® platform, consisting of the body and chassis, is at the center of the Mazda driving experience. The chassis achieves two seemingly contradictory goals at once: nimbleness at low speeds and stability at high speeds. The framework incorporates ultra-high tensile-strength steel in critical areas to help make it lighter, yet stiffer and stronger.
Cleaner, More fuel efficient engines
SKYACTIV®-G Gasoline Engine
Conventional internal combustion engines only harness around 30 percent of the potential energy of fuel. So Mazda engineered a smarter engine.
By pushing the limits of internal combustion, the Skyactiv®-G 2.0L and 2.5L gasoline engines deliver much greater fuel efficiency. With higher compression ratios than conventional engines.
Simply put, Skyactiv® engines can compress the air-fuel mixture in the cylinders to an extraordinary degree. Squeezing far more energy from every drop of fuel.
SKYACTIV®-D Diesel Engine
A revolutionary diesel engine, Skyactiv®-D delivers great fuel efficiency without sacrificing clean emissions.
With its world-leading compression ratio of 14:1, Skyactiv®-D provides a fuel economy improvement of 20% over conventional diesel engines and meets exhaust emission standards in countries around the world.
Installed with a high efficiency turbo charger, Skyactiv®-D also ensures smooth, direct response as well as superb acceleration.
SKYACTIV®-X Next Generation Gasoline Engine
The Skyactiv®-X is a groundbreaking new engine exclusive to Mazda in which the benefits of a spark-ignition gasoline engine —expansiveness at high rpms and cleaner exhaust emissions— have been combined with those of a compression-ignition diesel engine —superior initial response and fuel economy— to produce a crossover engine that delivers the best of both worlds.
Coming after Mazda’s Skyactiv®-G gasoline engine and Skyactiv®-D diesel engine, this third Skyactiv® engine has been given the new name of “X” in recognition of this dual role.
